Key Facts:

Course Title: Advanced Phlebotomy & Cannulation Course GPT004EC

Awarding Body: Open College Network (OCN Credit4Learning)

Award Level: Level Three (Advanced)

Minimum Age: 18 (16 with parental consent)

Entry requirements: None, although previous phlebotomy experience is desirable

Training Locations: E-learning + 1 Day Classroom - complete Parts 1 & 2 of this course in the comfort of your own home or at work followed by one full day classroom practicals and skill-set development

Course Overview:

If you have current or previous phlebotomy experience, or if you are completing (or have completed) our Introduction to Phlebotomy Course, then this is a natural progression.

You may alternatively be offering IVNT treatments within a salon and, as part of your aesthetic therapy treatments menu, you may be offering IV treatments.

In Part 1 of this course you will learn many more advanced techniques such as blood collection in children (see our Neonatal & Paediatric Course GPT103E for a specific qualification in this area), POC (Point of Care) testing and roles for phlebotomists in performing these tests, unusual and specific tests that you could encounter in hospitals and clinics, blood draw techniques for geriatric patients as well as advanced roles for phlebotomists (management, leadership, training).

Part 2 online takes you further into the specialised field of cannulation. Learn about the techniques and procedures needed to perform a peripheral IV cannulation (arm or hand) and take a detailed look at the equipment and cannula types. You will cover contraindications and complications, and a detailed support video will run through the whole process from start to finish.

Part 3 (Classroom) builds on your Part 2 theory training. We look specifically at cannulation (Peripheral IV Cannulation) and cover site selection, legal and professional responsibilities, types of cannulae and potential complications. There are practicals throughout the day and you will have ample opportunity to perfect your cannulation technique on our artificial arms.

There is also a wide range of support reference material for you to download from the course “dashboard”, much of which will provide essential references for you in the future.

A Home Study Pack supplements your learning and should be completed in conjunction with this course.

Please note: If you do not require cannulation practical training then our eLearning Advanced Phlebotomy & Cannulation course (GPT004E) will also award you a nationally recognised and accredited certificate (also Level 3 - advanced). If you have access to work supervision and training then our eLearning option may be a more suitable course.

The nationally recognised and accredited certificate (awarded by the Open College Network) can be added to your existing certificate credit value (cumulative credits), and these may also count towards other similar college or university courses

At the end of each e-learning section (module) you have a series of multiple choice questions to answer. You can re-sit each section a total of 3 times. There are no examples or multiple choice questions in the classroom.
